Reintroduction of Martens

The Government of Nova Scotia along with local First Nations has released a number of American Martens (Martes americana) into Cape Breton Highlands National Park. An endangered species in Nova Scotia, thirty Martens were trapped in New Brunswick for the relocation. Historically, Marten populations in Cape Breton have been higher, but they have suffered due to hunting and trapping.
