Sandbanks Provincial Park will be testing out a wind turbine provide energy for the park. The park is looking at the Magenn Power Air Rotor System. Unlike traditional wind turbines it is not ground-based. The strange looking turbine is tethered to the ground and kept aloft by helium. This increases it's flexibility in terms of where it can be used and how high it is in the air. According to their website, it does not pose a hazard to birds or bats.
It seems Ontario Parks as a whole is investigating more alternative energy sources. Just this summer Awenda installed solar panels at the Stone Cottage.
