New US Protected Area

In the near future Waco Mammoth National Monument will be joining the US National Park Service (NPS). The resources that will be protected include the remains of a Columbian Mammoth herd.

Up to this point the Waco Mammoth Foundation has been managing the site on a not-for-profit basis. At this stage, I do not know what role it will play once the site has joined the NPS system.

A press release (PDF) is available which regards the establishment of the National Monument. The NPS has also made a number of planning documents available online. Please note I cannot link directly to these. Search for the text "waco" to display a list.
