A National Cemetery

Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, Ontario, has been designated Canada's National Cemetery. Beechwood was designated a National Historic Site (2002) as well as Canada's National Military Cemetery (2001). The cemetery was established in 1873 on farm and estate land as an Anglo-Protestant cemetery. Since then it has come to include much wider faith and cultural communities.
