Caribou Habitat Protection

In Mt. Revelstoke National Park, Parks Canada is increasing the protection it provides to the habitat of a subspecies of Woodland Caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou). These caribou have adapted to be able to feed off lichen hanging down from trees as opposed to being limited to ground-based lichen. In the park, certain areas of caribour habitat will be closed off to backcountry activity.

Another recent item on caribou from the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society comments on the need for more habitat protection.
