Educational Monument

Recently, Douglas Coupland's Monument to the War of 1812 has been unveiled in Toronto. It depicts a two toy solders. The golden British soldier is standing over a fallen silver American soldier. The point of the monument is to commemorate the War of 1812 and to remind viewers the the United States lost the war. It is good to see that, through the memorial, Coupland has the viewer think about the history of the war and not simply remember the event.

Photos of the monument accompany the CBC and National Post articles.
